our story

Buttercups & more

In 1996, our journey began with the opening of Buttercups Tearoom, nestled on our family farm in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside. What started as a small, cosy tearoom offering delicious homemade cakes, teas, and lunches quickly became a cherished spot for locals and visitors alike. With its warm atmosphere and welcoming charm, Buttercups became more than just a place to enjoy a cup of tea — it became a peaceful retreat where people could unwind and savour the beauty of rural life.

Not long after the tearoom opened, our love for animals inspired us to expand the farm. That same year, we rescued our first three alpacas, marking the beginning of Rushfield Alpacas. What started as a sanctuary for these gentle creatures soon grew into a thriving community of animals, from alpacas to pigs, horses, ducks, and even the famous Charolais cows and bulls. Our farm became a sanctuary for both animals and people, where connection and care are at the heart of everything we do.

Today, Buttercups Tearoom and Rushfield Alpacas are deeply intertwined, offering visitors the chance to enjoy homemade treats while taking in the sights and sounds of our farm. Our 21 alpacas now roam freely in the fields surrounding the tearoom, adding to the tranquil countryside experience. Guests can relax with a cup of tea and watch the alpacas graze, creating a perfect blend of culinary delight and natural beauty.

We invite you to visit us and be part of this unique journey that began with Buttercups Tearoom and has grown into so much more. Whether you come for the food or the alpacas, you’ll leave with a sense of peace and a heart full of memories from our family farm in the Leicestershire countryside.
